These deadlines apply when changing health insurer
Basic insurance, deductible and supplementary insurance each have their own dates. Here are the most important ones for the change to 2027.

In basic insurance every Swiss health insurer must accept you, no matter how old you are or how healthy. That makes changing straightforward. You only have to keep to the deadlines.
Cancel basic insurance by 30 November
Your cancellation must reach your current insurer by 30 November at the latest. If that day falls on a weekend, the previous working day applies. In 2026, 30 November is a Monday. It is best to send the cancellation by registered mail and a few days early.
You are always insured
Your current basic insurance only ends once the new insurer has confirmed that it will cover you without interruption.
Changing in summer
If you have the CHF 300 deductible and the standard model, you can also change at the end of June. The cancellation must then arrive by 31 March.
Changing your deductible
- You choose a lower deductible for the next year by 30 November.
- You can still choose a higher deductible until 31 December.
Supplementary insurance
Supplementary insurance policies are private contracts. How long they run and when you can cancel is set out in your policy. The new insurer may ask health questions and may turn you down.
