A couple reading a letter together at home

At the end of September the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) announces the basic insurance (Grundversicherung) premiums for 2027. From then on you know what your health insurer will cost next year, and what the other insurers charge.

What to expect

Early forecasts assume that premiums will rise again in 2027. How much your own premium rises depends on your canton, your insurer, your deductible (Franchise) and your insurance model.

The key dates

  1. End of SeptemberThe FOPH publishes the 2027 premiums. From then on you can compare.
  2. 31 OctoberBy this date your health insurer must inform you of your new premium in writing.
  3. 30 NovemberYour cancellation of the basic insurance must have arrived at the insurer. A postmark is not enough.
  4. 1 January 2027The change takes effect.

What you can prepare today

  • Have your current policy ready, with your deductible, model and supplementary insurance.
  • Estimate roughly how high your doctor and medication costs were this year.
  • Consider whether a family doctor, HMO or Telmed model would suit you.
  • Do not cancel supplementary insurance too quickly. Different rules apply there.

Why advice is worth it now

There are only about two months between the announcement and 30 November. In that time many insured people want to compare at once. Personal and transparent advice shows you whether switching is worth it for you.

Autumn appointments are limited

In October and November advisory appointments are taken quickly. If you get in touch early, you can compare as soon as the premiums are published.
